The government of this country, rather than face the music as far as their disgusting behaviour is concerned, is planning to eject Mohamed Haneef, the man who had the great misfortune to be related to one of the idiots who tried bombing sites in England and Scotland and had the absolute audacity to give one of these people the SIM from a mobile he had, as it would be of no use to him as he was going to Australia.
Now he's been charged with being linked to terrorism, and chucked in an immigration controlled gulag because Kevin Gutless-troll Andrews decided to revoke his visa on character grounds. This is despite the fact that the magistrate in the case against Mr. Haneef released him on bail because he was clearly not a threat to anyone.
Now it's been revealed that the Australian Federal Police (notable for their attempts and success in getting more and more powers thrown at them in these dangerous days) has actually been shown to have completely misrepresented the case against Mr. Haneef. They said the mobile SIM was found in the Jeep that was rammed into a Scottish Airport when it was acutally found in a flat in Liverpool which he - and his wife - occupied before his cousins took it over.
Remind me again, are we supposed to be able to trust the police? Are we supposed to rely on the police to tell the truth? Are we supposed to support the actions of our government.
What's that old saying, spouted by those who receive power when questioned about the potential for abuse? Ah yes, it's something along the lines of:
Only those who are guilty have a reason to fear the law
Not so, my fine paraphrased friend. Now anyone who has even the slightest glancing link to someone nutty enough to want to kill people, has a reason to fear or indeed be locked-up by a reactionary jerk like Kevin Andrews who belongs to a similarly political-wedge driving, arrogantly presumptive, paternally vile and disgustingly populist manipulating government which, furthermore, desires the power so much that they will do anything to keep it.
And the opposition is no better.
Our Kevin Fudd has supported the government on this disgusting and - if I can throw something back at these bastards - UnAustralian act. Wasn't this country based upon the whole concept of sticking it to the overlords (in the original context, the British). And now we've become the bloody overlords, and the net reaction of the country at large:
Nothing.
This makes me sick to my stomach, and not just because I haven't had any breakfast yet. THe older I get, the more disgusted I become with the elected government of this country. And some might say "well, bugger off then." to which I will respond: "Don't tempt me."
